Our workshop is familiar territory, as many reconditioning jobs have been carried out here. We also prepare the turbochargers for our own ReMan line here. In this blog, we take you through the process of reconditioning our MasterTurbo ReMan turbochargers from start to finish.
The MasterTurbo ReMan turbo is created using a careful step-by-step plan. First, we select an old unit from our warehouse, set it aside, and create a work order. We then disassemble the turbo and inspect the condition, damage, and defects of all parts. During this task, we also estimate the time and parts required for the overhaul job.
The work order with further details is then sent to our office. Our specialists assess whether further reconditioning is worthwhile or whether a new turbo is a better replacement for the defective unit, as aspects such as costs, delivery times, and available parts can sometimes make a difference in this choice. For example, a customer cannot leave their forklift truck out of service for a week, so in this case, a new turbo is often chosen.
For orders on request, a decision is always made in consultation with the customer. Once the ReMan turbo has been approved, any parts that are not in stock are ordered.
Meanwhile, the turbo is being prepared for overhaul. in the workshop. The parts are degreased and washed, after which they are cleaned of dirt and rust in the blast cabinet. Next, the mating surfaces are flattened and threaded holes are tapped. The final step in the process of cleaning, rinsing, and rust prevention then begins.
Once all the parts are ready for assembly and the new parts have arrived, the turbo is reassembled. After assembly, the turbo is balanced or, in the case of a new core turbo, assembled and tested on the flow bench. These machines are used to generaten test reports which are sent with the ReMan turbo.
We can generate three different types of test reports depending on the type of turbo. The flow bench test report checks whether the turbo achieves the desired output in various aspects. The turbo is approved when the measured value is within the specified values.
The other two reports measure the balance. Depending on the speed of the turbo, one of the two balancing machines is used. In the example the turbo passed the test because the point is in the inner circle. The imbalance may still be 0.5 grams, but less imbalance is better for the turbo.
Finally, a last check is performed, during which the turbo is assembled, engraved, and prepared for shipment. Sometimes a type plate with the turbo number and work order number is added to the turbo, because you can recognize a MasterTurbo ReMan by the work order number. The turbo is then carefully packaged and placed in the recognizable yellow MasterTurbo box together with the test reports, instructions, and gasket set. We then place the product on our shelves or send the turbo directly to a customer.
Our own line of ReMan turbochargers is available for a wide range of applications, such as passenger cars, trucks, shipping, agriculture, industry, and even generators. For these applications, we offer a range of turbochargers with or without wastegate and variable geometry turbochargers (VGT). The latter type is unique in that the turbo adapts to the engine speed.
MasterTurbo also offers the service of having ReMan turbochargers manufactured on request. We have a large stock available, but if the turbo you require is not in stock, we can look into the possibilities.
There is also the option of sending your own turbo to us for repair. In most cases, it is still possible to breathe new life into your old or defective turbo with the knowledge of our specialists and the techniques used in our workshop.
